Almost at the same time we launched our website a year ago, an Australian design start-up called Canva launched what they hoped to become the default online design tool to create and collaborate with. One year later, the online graphic design start-up now has more than 320,000 users who have created more than 1 million designs on the platform. And we are happy to announce our friendly collaboration with them.
What exactly is Canva?
If your desire is to make beautiful and professional- looking posters, invitation cards, website graphics, multiple-page presentations or even beautiful infographics, Canva is a design service you would want to use.
‘Canva makes graphic design amazingly simple for everyone,’ says Canva CEO Melanie Perkins. ‘Design is really difficult and daunting for non-designers and there is now so much pressure to create professional quality designs, from creating a presentation, marketing materials, graphics for social media and even a resume. However, until now design was such a difficult and convoluted process that it was out of the hands for most people.’
What can Canva do for you?
How many of us out there want to be Photoshop pros? Or capable of designing a simple and yet attractive flyer? Or professional looking business cards? Or images for our blogs or Facebook covers? Or maybe just a simple greetings card for our grandparents` wedding anniversary?
Don’t get me wrong, Canva isn’t meant to replace pro tools like Photoshop or InDesign, for example. Canva is intended to be the tool that’s “good enough” for most everyday design-related tasks. A service, which offers an easy to use drag-and-drop interface and access to over a million photographs, graphics and fonts, is aimed at the predominant user who doesn’t consider him or herself a designer, as well as professionals who want to collaborate with clients about their work.
Is Canva free to use?
Canva is completely free of charge. Instead of introducing user fees, the company plans to generate revenue through the paid stock images it offers on its platform, which are presented alongside the free selection.
