How to install extensions in Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3?

Joomla is a popular open-source and free CMS (content management system) for publishing web content, written in PHP. One of its biggest advantages is that you can easily extend Joomla’s functionality by adding Plugins, Components, and Modules. As a free and open-source application, Joomla has a ton of contributors, who develop various Joomla extensions, which can help you build virtually any type of websites – from online stores and mailing lists to social media and forums.

After you install Joomla 2.5* or Joomla 3 manually or automatically, you can start adding your Joomla extensions. First, you need to download your preferred extension as a zip file package.  After that, log in to your Joomla Administrator panel and navigate to Extensions -> Extension Manager.

Select Browse File and find the location of the downloaded extension on your local machine. Finally, click on Upload and Install and you are done!

Note: All Joomla extensions are created by volunteer developers and are unique. In case you need help with any of the extensions, it is best to contact its developer, as he will be able to locate the problem and help you better.

*Keep in mind, that the support for Joomla 2.5 has ended in 2014. This means that there are not new releases and security patches. That is why we advise that you install Joomla 3 if you are starting from scratch or consider migrating your existing Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.
